  • It’s the fifth and final day of National Prevention Week!  Day 5 emphasizes awareness and prevention of youth tobacco use.  Today we wear blue, the national color for anti-tobacco use.

  • Nearly all tobacco use begins during youth and young adulthood.  88% of tobacco users start before age 18.  Studies show that if you make it to age 18 without ever trying tobacco products, it’s unlikely  that you ever will be a  tobacco user.  Be too smart to start!  There are many things that can be done to prevent using tobacco products,  including learning the risks of e-cigarette use and “vaping.”  E- cigarettes contain nicotine which is known to be harmful to the  developing teenage brain and have now been linked to cancer, lung  damage, and heart disease.  While we’ve known about the dangers  and risks of tobacco products for decades, research is still needed to  understand the long term effects of e-cigs.  What is known is that  they still possess potential dangers and should not be considered  safe.
