On Friday night, the Raiders basketball team traveled to Jacksonville to watch Illinois College play in their home opener. The boys enjoyed dinner at Los Charros in Havana and were able to spend the evening together as a team seeing Division III basketball. Thank you to all the supporters of our program for making all of this possible at no cost to the players. Be sure to come out Friday to Meet the Raiders as the team kicks off their season.

Art Club attended the First Friday Event in Peoria this past weekend. Members had the opportunity to visit local art galleries and exhibitions. Stops included the Studios on Sheridan and the Contemporary Art Center. Here, members were able to view all kinds of artwork, talk to the artists about their creative processes, see demonstrations and even learn some salsa dancing!

Mr. Welch had the opportunity to visit Mr. Franklin's band class today. The students performed a song that was written by fellow student Ashe Miles. Ashe actually wrote the song in Mr. Franklin's elective class, Electronic Music, and then made adjustments to sheet music so his fellow band classmates could join him in performing the song. After performing as a group, Ashe then took Mr. Franklin's spot and led in conducting his peers. It was great to see the passion for music come alive in the classroom.

Last night, MCHS cheerleaders showed up to cheer on the MCMS teams. This year, each high school cheerleader has a middle school cheerleader as their little sister. They made adorable signs for their little sisters! We plan on doing some camps together & some team bonding. The middle school girls are so excited & grateful to have the support of their big sister!!

Midwest Central High School recently celebrated Red Ribbon Week with the goal of increasing awareness of the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse. This year the Careers Club sponsored a Bags Tournament as one of our student activities for Red Ribbon Week. Thank you to the following students and staff who participated: Ayla Charlton, Amanda Proehl, Johnny McFarland, Jake Hunter, Grant Rasmussen, Mr. Snider, Jaxon Tumility, Brayden Nelson, Brayson Purdy, Joe Proehl, Calvin Young, Malachi Carroll, Josh Dawe, Logan Schweigert, Jaxon Palmer, Collin Price, and Dalton Johnson.

The final four teams were Johnny and Jake, Jaxon and Brayden, Logan and Jaxon, and Dalton and Collin. The championship was a best two out of three games with Jaxon and Brayden taking the first game. Dalton and Collin came back with a win in the second game. Jaxon and Brayden then came away with a third win to take the championship. There were some great matchups, and we hope to have even more teams participate next year!

In Mr. Servis’ Physical Science classes, the students have been building paper egg catchers to slow down the acceleration of a falling egg to keep them from breaking. To make things more interesting, the students were tasked to build their devices with only tape and paper, then needed to drop an egg from various heights, with the last height being from the top of the high school gym. This engineering investigation is part of the Laws of Motion unit.
