History League had an eventful field trip to Lincoln's Historic New Salem this weekend! Students were able to explore the preserved town, dress up like New Salem's residents, re-enact one of Lincoln's wrestling matches, try historical instruments and gadgets, and even hear from a real relative of Lincoln who had many amazing stories to tell!

Midwest Central Graduate Highlight
Jaden Watts (2022 MCHS Graduate) is a sophomore at the University of Illinois Springfield majoring in political science. Jaden is an outfielder on the softball team for the Prairie Stars. Jaden has a .321 hitting average so far in the 23-24 season and has 3 RBI’s. In the field Jaden is a star! Of the 20 chances in the field, Jaden has 18 putouts with a 100% fielding percentage! Midwest Central is excited to see Jaden being successful on the field! The next home game for the Prairie Star’s is April 20th and 21st in Springfield, Il with both starting at 12pm and 2pm. #RaiderPOWER
Señora Brodbeck's Spanish 3 class took a field trip to Chicago last week. They explored the Pilsen neighborhood via a walking tour, enjoyed baked goods from Panadería (Bakery) Leon, experienced the National Museum of Mexican Art, had a delicious lunch at Taquería Los Comales, and met famous muralist, Hector Duarte, at his home studio. Señor Duarte explained one of his favorite pieces and they also viewed his current commission.

Olivia Lewis (2022 MCHS Graduate) is a sophomore at Carl Sandburg College and is a member of the softball team. Olivia has played in all 14 games that the Chargers have had this 2023-24 season as a center fielder or in fielder. At the plate, Olivia has a .323 batting average with 10 hits, 3 doubles and 4 runs batted in. Midwest Central is proud of Olivia’s hard work as a student athlete at the collegiate level! The next home game is April 9th and 10th in Galesburg, Il. #RaiderPROUD
