CONGRATS Courtney on your all-expenses paid week-long trip to Washington D.C. on the Youth to Washington Tour!!! The Youth to Washington Tour offers more than 60 students from Illinois the opportunity to travel together to spend a week in Washington, D.C. to meet Illinois Congressmen, Senators and their staffs, tour historical sites, receive information on career paths, learn about co-ops, make lifelong friends, and meet students from across the U.S. It is truly a remarkable trip sponsored for more than 50 years by U.S. electric and telephone co-ops. Past participants have visited such places as Gettysburg; Arlington National Cemetery; White House; U.S. Capitol Building; Washington Monument; the Newseum; Holocaust and Smithsonian Museums; and the Iwo Jima, Lincoln, Jefferson, Korean War, Vietnam War, World War II, U.S. Marine Corps and Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorials. If you would like to see more details about this opportunity, you can find them here: https://aiec.coop/youth-programs/youth-to-washington-tour/ We are so proud of our Raider and our continued partnership with local businesses. A HUGE thank you goes out to Erika Hunter, Jesse Harbourn, Kali Troxell, Mason District Hospital, Manito Medical Associates, Nurse Richardson, and Nurse Monroe for making this a possibility! Mrs. DeSutter's Physics class ended their study of bridges today by breaking their balsa wood bridges that they designed and built in class. It was a great way to study different bridge designs, trussing and bridge joints while incorporating tension and compression. This year the winning team was Collin and Rylan. Their bridge held 69 lbs (weighing in at 71.0 grams). Second place was Archer and Ty at 47 lbs (at 41.2g). Third place was Courtney and Logan at 42 lbs (at 41.1g). Fourth place went to Ayden, Josh F. and Josh S. with 42 lbs (at 51.1g). The record is 100 lbs set in 2013 by Kayla Schmidgall and Sam Woodward!
